Crystal Kay To Sing Theme For U.S. Film

Singer Crystal Kay has been appointed to do a theme song for an American film. “HOLD ON,” a rock-influenced number with entirely English lyrics, will be used in “Dolan’s Cadillac,” an adaptation of a Stephen King short story. The film is being directed by Jeff Beesley and stars Christian Slater and Wes Bentley.

Crystal Kay has sung several themes for Japanese movies and television series, but this will be her first for a foreign production. She was chosen for the tie-up by producer Ellen Wander, who listened to the previously unreleased song.

Crystal Kay is hoping this will help her achieve her goal of entering the U.S. market. Her most recent album, “Color Change!,” includes two songs she created in Los Angeles with producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, known for working with popular artists such as Janet Jackson.

“Dolan’s Cadillac” is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters in 2009. A Japanese release has not yet been decided

Moon Crying-Translation

We walked together often
On our usual street
While under the moonlight
A sorrowful melody

I didn’t want to show such a face
But it’s because I just like you
I made you sad
The tears that day

I want to see you but
No matter how I try I can’t get
my feelings across
If my overflowing words could reach you
I want to sing out my thoughts of you

I want to see you but
No matter how I try I can’t get
my feelings across
Tonight too I am only thinking of one thing
I am still loving you

To meet would be just selfish
When I sometimes talked too much
You just smiled and forgave me
Just like an adult

When you were lonely I thought
If I could recognize it
If I reached softly with my hand
Your warmth and after this
would we be together?

I want to see you but
No matter how I try I can’t get
my feelings across
If my overflowing words could reach you
I want to sing out my thoughts of you

If I could return to that day
All these would be no more
Tonight too I am only thinking of one thing
I am still loving you

My feelings that can’t be put into words
I want to convey them through this song
If my overflowing words could reach you
I want to sing out my thoughts of you

Tonight too I’m looking at the sky
Towards where the moon is shining
I want to walk there with my important person
Forever, forever I want to be beside you

Please don’t let go of my hand

BoA’s ‘Valenti’ To Be Featured In Japanese Musical

BoA’s hit song “Valenti” will be featured in a Japanese musical.

Japan’s leading entertainment company Avex said it will begin producing a musical entitled “Pieces of the Heart” to celebrate its 20th founding anniversary.

The musical, which will be staged at the Aoyama Theater in Tokyo from September 15 to 29, revolves around a heartbroken heroine who isolates herself from the meaningless relationships of today’s modern society and takes off on a futuristic journey that centers around a mysterious object called “Pieces of the Heart.”

The musical will feature 21 songs that have been carefully selected by Avex. They include hit songs performed by Avex artists over the past 20 years. It is the first Japanese musical to feature only the hit songs of artists from a single entertainment company.

The songs include past hits by Namie Amuro, Ayumi Hamasaki, Kumi Koda, Exile, Ami Otsuda and Ami Suzuki.

Avex also selected “Valenti” from BoA’s second studio album, which sold 1.5 million copies in 2003.

Throughout the performance period, Avex plans to exhibit costumes, accessories and trophies of Avex artists

Ai Otsuka, Puffy To Be Guests At Avril Concert

Popular musician Avril Lavigne has already worked together with pop duo Puffy, and now she will be teaming up with singer Ai Otsuka as well. When Avril returns to Japan for a concert at the Tokyo Dome on September 16, both Puffy and Ai Otsuka will be making guest appearances on stage.

Avril remarked that she wanted her show to be like a “rock party.” Puffy was a natural choice as a guest, as she and producer Butch Walker previously worked with the duo on the song “All Because of You,” released this past May. Ai Otsuka is said to have been chosen due to her status as a symbol of the “girls rock” scene.

Wonder Girls Learning English To Break Into Overseas Markets

Learning english for future overseas performances…Ye Eun’s vocabulary is excellent while Sun Mi’s pronunciation is the best among the Wonder Girls.

The above-mentioned remarks came from their english tuition teacher who had been offering 24 hours lessons for them in a “passionate manner” since the beginning of May to prepare them for their overseas expansion. Once the Wonder Girls are back in their dorm, they would be conversing as much as possible in english and also try to use it in their daily lifestyle.

In order to express their own thoughts through interviews with overseas media, they are undergoing extra lessons in their free time. So how is their english language ability now? Well, each have their own strengths and weaknesses as they learn the language through “competition”.

Their tuition teacher expressed:
Each has their own personality and have different areas which they are stronger in with regards to the english language. Compared to the rest, Ye Eun has a wider range of vocabulary and can construct a beautiful sentence easily. Sun Ye meanwhile has a good basic foundation and has a slight advantage from the rest.

For the two younger members, Sun Mi and So Hee, with them both in high school right now and having received english language education from young, they are able to converse fluently with accurate pronunciation, leaving the JYPE staff feeling satisfied.

Although Yoo Bin has some experience of speaking it since she had lived in America before, the general review is that her pronounciation has a strong Korean dialect accent, which is a far cry from how actual english should be spoken.

To gauge their progress, the members are tested on 400 english words weekly. If they get more than 80% of the words wrong, they are required to write those wrong words for 100 times each. But no member has suffered that fate yet. Because of their hectic schedule, the Wonder Girls can only start revising and work even harder to learn the words when the test date draws near.

According to JYPE, “Since their return from America in March, the Wonder Girls have recognized the importance of them knowing English well enough in order for them to expand into overseas markets. Their passion for learning English has thus increased and the competition between them to do better than each other has only served to raise their level up a notch.”
